What was the issue?
Estates Roofing had the absolute pleasure of assisting a lovely woman in Billingham. Our details were passed on to this customer as she had been let down on numerous occasions by other contractors who didn't even turn up to inspect the roof! The customer was aware the roof was approaching the end of its natural life (as it was the original roof that dates back to the 1930’s) and was looking for some peace of mind following the recent storms. Based on the age of the roof and the issues, the customer was right in her assessment to replace the main pitched roof.
Our recommendations
The first thing we explained to the customer was the incredibly important factor of getting Building Regulations Approval for the roof replacement. When you are replacing 50% or more of your roof, it is a legal obligation to obtain a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BRCC). The quote was accepted by the customer after having a conversation with her family.
We applied for the Building Regulations as an agent on behalf of the customer and dealt with the local authority directly to remove extra workload for the customer. We arranged for the scaffolding, skips, materials and necessary plant hire (bumpa tile lifts) all to be delivered on site ready for the work to commence.
End Result
This roof replacement was a great opportunity to prove our skill as a variety of finishes were required on the job from Velux window flashings, firestops, chimney stacks and a very tricky party wall. The building inspector from Stockton Borough Council was very happy with the work and the way we conduct ourselves so they were happy to sign the work off and issue the BRCC to the customer.
More importantly the customer was over the moon and in her own words “felt very assured with [her] choice in contractor”. With our labourer coming down with a sickness bug, we stayed on sight until 7pm that evening to ensure we finished on time for the customer. After an 11 hour shift, the customer was very generous and assisted us with sweeping up (even though we insisted for her not to) and provided beautiful cups of tea (with the top tier biscuits)! For her wonderful support, it was only right that she received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the local florist from the team at Estates Roofing. Another roofing experience redefined.
