Dan Sanderson
Director
Meet Dan, our Director.
Dan is the foundation on which the business is built. He leads by example, ensuring knowledge, quality, passion, transparency and integrity are at the forefront of everything we do here.
The vision for the business first stemmed from his experiences in the roofing industry, which stoked a desire in him to change the way things are done. In his own words, he says, “I’m not here to play the game, I’m here to change it”.
When Dan isn’t providing fantastic customer service or working on your roof, you may find him watching the F1 or Rugby Union (better than Rugby League) in his spare time.
We’re extremely proud to have Dan steering the ship, ensuring the standards he’s set are upheld at all times. It’s what makes us… us!
Jay Simpson
Senior Surveyor
Jay joined Estates Roofing in July 2025 as the company’s Senior Surveyor. With over a decade of experience in domestic roofing, Jay has worked in every single key role within the industry, from Fault Diagnosis, Quantity Surveying, RAMS, Site Planning, Installation Management and Customer Liaison. This plethora of experience delivers the core values of Estates Roofing to every customer, no matter how big or small the job may be.
This role comes with a lot of responsibility. If you are to get the right outcome, you first need to identify the cause of the issue and understand the roof system in its entirety in order to put forward the correct solution. With Jay’s keen focus on attention to detail and his honesty, you can rest assured you are in some of the safest hands in the industry.
An avid supporter of Sunderland Football Club, when he isn’t supporting his team, you can find him playing football, in the gym, camping or enjoying walks in the countryside with his lovely Spaniel Ruben.
We are humbled to have Jay part of the Estates Roofing team and are grateful for the strength he brings to the business with the passion he has for his work.
Colin Docherty
Installations Manager
Colin is the heart of the company, ensuring that the logistics and planning are correct and on time every time! With a plethora of experience in the corporate world, Colin’ organisational skills and management skills are second to none.
As well as being a massive family man, Colin is also a very well-known man within the North East. From assisting and planning events for his local pub, to helping local businesses out with odd jobs (he doesn’t like people knowing he is the master of the paint brush)!
Colin has a really strong connection with South Shields Football club and is often seen in a corporate box and has even made a TV appearance! Our very own celebrity.
We could not be happier to have Colin on board the Estates Roofing Team! As many customers we deal with will not meet Colin in person, we thought we would share a picture of him to put a face to the name.
Dale Helyer
Roofer
Dale joined Estates Roofing in June 2023 and has quickly become a very valuable asset to the business, along with being a customer favourite with his personality and knowledge. With a sidestep from the asbestos removal trade, Dale has a great work ethic and takes a lot of pride in his work, alongside his finely tuned skills in roofing and knowledge of hazardous materials.
With a busy personal life, Dale will either be found being a great father and partner, or you will find him in pool competitions for his local team or competitions for his local darts team.
A little fun fact: it has been said that Dale is the best at catching various items that are thrown at him for his height, weight and age. Whether that be a tennis ball, a rugby ball, a set of keys or many other items that can be caught.
Dale is constantly striving to improve his extensive roofing skills and knowledge. With his focused mindset, ability to learn and ability to get stuck in, we have absolutely no doubt he will achieve this and then some! We are incredibly grateful to have Dale on board with Estates Roofing.
Lewis Mallam
Roofer
Lewis joined the company in April 2024, and we are delighted to have him as an integral part of the Estates Roofing team.
Although Lewis is the youngest member of the company, he brings many qualities to the table, including an NVQ Level 2 in Joinery, which adds another string to the bow for Estates Roofing. Furthermore, Lewis has a great work ethic and a passion for detail.
In his spare time, Lewis can be found representing Billingham Rugby, playing fly-half, kicking conversions and penalties for fun. Outside of rugby, Lewis is a dad to a wonderful daughter who is definitely his biggest fan on the sidelines of every game.
As can be seen from the other staff photos, Lewis also claims the bragging rights to having the best head of hair in the company.
Lewis fits into the company culture with ease, and it continues to be a pleasure having him aboard.
Brad Jury
Roofer
Brad has recently joined the Estates Roofing Team with nearly a decade of experience in multiple roles within the Industry. From labouring positions all the way through to running a remedial department, Brad brings a lot of knowledge and skills to the company, on top of being an all-round great person.
Speaking with Brad, he said, “I take pride in working closely with customers, making sure they feel confident and safe. I always like to go the extra mile to deliver 100% quality. I love a challenge, and there is nothing more satisfying than transforming a roof into something that’s not just functional, but built to last”. This statement alone is the exact ethos of Estates Roofing, and we cannot wait for our customers to benefit from Brad’s skilled craftsmanship.
In his spare time, Brad is a father to three children and can be found in his local boxing gym keeping his fitness intact. He is aiming to have some amateur fights in 2026 – watch this space!
As the Estates Roofing team continues to grow, we have no doubt he will set a great example of what Estates Roofing is all about to future team members.
Chris Watson
Roofer
Chris joins the company with a decorated career in roofing. What Chris does not know about roofing, is not worth knowing.
With 30 years experience under his belt, Chris bolsters the already strong ranks at Estates Roofing.
Outside of work, Chris is father of three and an avid supporter of Arsenal. Chris is able to boast the following accolades: Elite Super Soaker Sniper, Chester-Le-Street Primary School Conker Champion 86-87, Chess Champion 1986 and closer to obtaining his bus pass than any other member of staff by 10 years.
We are delighted to have Chris as part of the Estates Roofing team. He brings a great attitude to work, a great character and laser focused attention to detail with any job he does. With a unique ability to give customers a warm sense of reassurance with his presence on site, he has already established himself as a solid member of the team.
Violet Sanderson
Morale Manager
Violet is Estates Roofing’s best volunteer. She has many roles within the business, which vary from boosting morale to barking at every delivery we receive before getting fussed over by the delivery drivers.
Violet is a pedigree Silver Labrador, a rare colour for Labradors, as they start off as a chocolate Labrador before a rare recessive gene reduces the pigmentation of the fur, making them silver. The very nature of Silver Labradors is a great fit for Estates Roofing, as we feel it personifies what we do – bringing in all the amazing aspects of their breed and nature, but with that little X factor that just makes things a little bit more special.
We tried to interview Violet to share some of her thoughts about what it is like at Estates Roofing, but she was too busy sleeping.
